tely twenty kilometres. It begins at
the emblematic Church of Santiago
el Mayor, located in the heart of the
town, and continues towards the dis-
tinctive Dragon Bridge—a modern
and iconic structure that symbolises
the town’s urban renewal. From the-
re, the path runs alongside the Gua-
daíra River, crossing natural and cul-
tural landmarks such as the mills of
Realaje, Cerraja and Pelay Correa,
which form part of a milling complex
declared an Asset of Cultural Interest
(Bien de Interés Cultural).
These mills, once the economic en-
gines of the area, have been resto-
red with environmental criteria that
respect their original structure, fully
integrated into the local strategy for
sustainability and preservation of
the river environment. Today, some
of the mills serve as interpretive
spaces, promoting environmental
education and awareness about the
importance of preserving the cultural
landscape of the Guadaíra.
Panoramic view of Alcalá de Guadaíra
Castle of Alcalá de Guadaíra The peri-urban parks along the river-
bank represent another major invest-
ment in ecotourism. In recent years,
Alcalá has developed an extensive
network of footpaths and greenways
that allow visitors not only to explore
the milling heritage but also to enjoy
the local biodiversity.
Oromana Park is the best example of
this commitment to sustainability. This
protected and carefully managed na-
tural area is home to various native
plant and animal species, serving as a
vital ecological corridor for the metro-
politan area of Seville.
From a heritage perspective, Alcalá
offers a remarkable variety of monu-
ments alongside its ecological ini-
tiatives. The medieval fortress, the
Castle of Alcalá, stands proudly on
high ground, offering panoramic views
over the natural and urban surroun-
dings. Recently restored according to
architectural and landscape sustaina-
bility criteria, the castle is seamlessly
integrated into the town’s sustainable
development and tourism project.
